in the pr ner from >>> 49ers win, successful broadcast. >> i was very impressed with downtown indianapolis. you can walk from downtown to lucas oil stadium. they did it right. it's a beautiful place but the 9ers got off on a good start and they got a strong performance in the preseason opener from rookie runningback anthony dixson, who ran for 100 yards but he will not win the backup job to frank gore because today, the 49ers signed veteran runningback bryan westbrook, who spent the first 8 seasons of his career with the eagles. the 49ers wanted a veteran who knew how to block knew how it protect a quarterback and westbrook fits the bill. brian joins us. congratulations. who made contact first? >> the 9ers called me first. i'm happy to be here. >> you're only 30 years old but you sustained multiple concussions, a couple last year that limited to you just half a season to start. what kind of risk are you taking by continuing to play football? >> well, just by conferring with the doctors and talk with them, they said that i'm not taking any additional risk by playing football. my risk is ju
attention in indianapolis for peyton manning because mvp award. and mid season, once he got out of double game look out! and the earlier, fumble, and it turned into points. and the big play on the sides of the 49ers this reduce math. ! [laughter] and the defense, really quick-he is quick. and with 34 unanswered points and anthony dixon was just the man. he just ran it through, the colts the defense. 100 yds, and 37-17 victory. who knows? more of the forty-niners and cider kevin insider, and what moves the made. baseball, the a's and entertained the blue jays that is coming up on the late show. and also that ball club and the giants flew to philadelphia of these next nine games will tell you went lot about this team. and the concern is the man on the ball off. and his last 17 starts have not been very good at barely 500. and his era is almost at 5 and he got rocked with it after is the worst third defeat, and he will not pitch in philadelphia. and will not be on this road trip will leave us some time to think about it and the concern is that the two- time si you ng winner in nothing there.
.d. norman. there's -- j.d. norman has taken an ad out in the local indianapolis newspaper called "the indianapolis star" and here it is this morning. full page ad pleading with the members of the local 23 to have a vote on this issue. this is 650 jobs that we'd like to keep in indiana as the national union representative knows and indicates in the paper this morning, these individuals were will be being paid at the market wage rate. >> sure. j.d. norman said effectively you can work for us at this particular rate which is $15.50 an hour. mitch, tell us, $15.50 an hour, is that on par? it's half of what the g.m. workers are making right now. is it on par with what other automakers in indiana are making? >> well, we have toyota plants, subaru facility and a honda plant here in indiana and it's above the starting wage rate at those facilities. and at the starting wage rate for what new g.m. workers would be paid when they're hired into the new g.m. in addition to this, the g.m. workers would be allowed to move to other facilities across the -- other g.m. facilities across the country o
in the united states of america. it makes no sense to me in indianapolis where the same report reported that 19% of the african-american boys graduated from high school, that that school system is allowed to exist and people are allowed to be employed by that. when we look in the new england states, a state like maine, where you have 70 or 80% of the african males graduated. what we're seeing around the country is that there are successful models where they can graduate african-american males in the same cities where they can't. when the only option that the parents are is a horrible, failing school system, then you can put all of the work you want in, at the back end, 47% of the african-american males graduates, i bet some 50% of those are reading four or five grade levels behind. >> back to that, the program that they haufr in new jersey, these free preschool classes, and the fact that it's full time and they start early on, and they have a curriculum. what is happening there that's contributing to the successful graduation rates? >> new jersey schools as a state -- new jersey's public school
